Institute of Success and Goal Achievement guest Rich Hopkins

If you listened to the interview with Rich Hopkins then you know about the phrase, “Love that New Foot Smell” . . .

Which makes you wonder a few things, such as: “What did the old foot smell like?”  “New foot – just where can I get one of those?”  and “OK, is that a metaphor, or are we really talking about a new foot?”

As Rich explains, yes, he does have a new foot to replace one that just wasn’t working despite years of trying to make the best of it.  (Rich described it as his “Titanium Upgrade”, and I pictured the movie “Robots” that my kids like to watch.)  He also uses this as a metaphor in his public speeches because often, we are afraid to let go of status quo despite how good things will be once we decide to move on.  While the status quo might be “acceptable”, it often gets in the way of what might be “exceptional”.

Rich Hopkins had tons of interesting content during this interview, including his success story (which included the real truth about his foot), ideas for moving from Acceptable to Exceptional (and why this is important), plus – some great insights from his success as a speaker – he continues to make the Nationals in the Toastmasters competitions.

Progress, not Perfection

* This was first published as part of April’s i-saga newsletter called “Create Your Story”.  You can find more information at www.i-saga.net/newsletter.php

While still young, i-saga is moving from its early phases to become more mature.  Much like a young adult, this organization has a lot of energy and excitement, but also tons of room to grow to reach its full potential.

As I’ve learned (and am still learning) in all areas of my life, it’s important to follow a philosophy of “Progress, not Perfection”.  The Institute of Success and Goal Achievement has followed this well, and as a result has been building a great resource for the rapidly growing community.  I love the quote from Winston Churchill, “Waiting for perfection breeds paralysis”.  Thank goodness I managed to “just start”, despite knowing that i-saga was far from perfect in its early days.

When I did start the Institute of Success and Goal Achievement, it had what I would consider a sub-par website and insufficient content.  I had a vision of where I was going but didn’t have everything lined up perfectly how I wanted them.  I could have delayed … and delayed … and delayed until everything was perfect before scheduling that first guest interview, but I knew in my gut and in my heart that it was time to stop making excuses and get i-saga launched even if all the support wasn’t where I wanted it.

Institute of Success and Goal Achievement guest Patrick Snow, author of Creating Your Own Destiny, at www.i-saga.net

What a show, with guest Patrick Snow!  OK, maybe that rhyme is a bit goofy sounding, but honestly, I have a lot of energy that I have after interviewing Patrick today that I did not have early this morning.  If you listened live I’m sure you’d say the same.

Patrick is an international keynote speaker, author, and coach to other authors and speakers.  He has been called “The Dean of Destiny” and after this interview I’m sure you understand why.  Yes, you can dream big and determine the destiny you want to create, and use your mind to design the vision of the life you want.

There was a lot of great discussion, and some of Patrick’s advice to the listeners is to build a business while you keep your day job, because his research has shown that even the job you love today may disappear due to the common dynamics of Corporate America.  You will be ready should that ever happen to you, or should you find that you’re no longer happy at your job and career.  This is why Patrick is an advocate for people starting their their own successful businesses – he’s done it and provided some great advice to the i-saga community to think about as well.

Catch Patrick’s book, Creating Your Destiny – How to Get Exactly What You Want Out of Life, explains in more detail why this is important, and a new book that should be out in Fall 2008 called the Affluent Entrepreneur provides the Wealth Blueprint.

As always, you can find the replay of this interview at www.i-saga.net

Best of luck to you in i-saga’s success community as you create your destiny!

Institute of Success and Goal Achievement Julie Watson Smith at www.i-saga.net

Despite her host (me!) bailing out on her right in the middle of her interview with the Institute of Success and Goal Achievement’s weekly program (more about this below), Julie Watson Smith had the perfect content for any entrepreneur who also has a family to think about.  I hope you didn’t miss it!  If you are like most entrepreneurs I know, unless you are single (no spouse, no kids) then you are exactly the person who should listen to this call!

Julie shared so many useful ideas that I’ve already had some discussion with my wife about the difference between a Business-first family and a Family-first business.  She’s ready to queue up the replay on her iPod and listen on her run this weekend.  I hope you listen, too.

As for your silly host, Pete Winiarski . . . well, technical problems could happen to any of us at any moment.  I must say that that glitch was the first of it’s kind in over 50 teleseminars that I’ve conducted using this service.  If you missed any of the content (or want to hear my disappearing act again), then catch the replay – ALL of Julie’s great content is here on this recording, including the #1 principle that can skyrocket your success, which she did share toward the end of our interview.

Institute of Success and Goal Achievement guest Pam Garcy, PhD at www.i-saga.net

The Institute of Success and Goal Achievement had a wonderful guest this week, Pam Garcy.  Pam gave us some great perspectives about how to use our inner guidance.  I love that she has the background as a clinical psychologist, as this has provided years of insights for her to build on and deepen her understanding of this inner guidance concept.

Pam described that there is a infinite supply of wisdom available to each of us to help us solve our problems, break through barriers, and achieve our goals – we just need to learn how to tap into it.  Her recent book, The Power of Inner Guidance: Seven Steps to Tune In and Turn On, provides clear direction for how to tap into this wisdom.  Thank you Pam for giving us a jump start on what to do during this i-saga interview.  I found much of what you shared reassuring, as I have recently begun to tap into this wisdom, and can tell all of you that success can be a lot easier than you think!
